After a wet summer, CIPA were looking forward to a dry Tuesday evening against a team they'd had mixed success against in the past.
Newlywed Justin took over the toss and elected to bat. The pitch was very low and slow, and combined with a slow outfield the scoring started slowly. Just as the two openers were getting into a rhythm Al Davidson triggered Justin (who was facing a left arm round the wicket bowler). Shortly afterwards Bruce Torrence lofted a huge straight six to reach his retirement - little did he know he should have kept his pads on...
The remainder of CIPAs innings was a scratchy affair, wickets falling regularly due to good fielding, bad batting and interesting running.
A target of 124 was posted, which we thought was slightly below par, but defensible on such a slow wicket.
COBCC's innings started in the same manner as CIPA's, but with slightly more success, the first wicket not falling until the sixth over with Andy Spurr putting a bit more pace on one, forcing the ball between pad and pad.
Wickets were hard to come by, and for once this wasn't due to missed catches - there was not a single catching opportunity all game.
Stuart Lumsden - perhaps freed from the shackles of captaincy - managed to put a stem to the runs and CIPA inched towards the final over with a hope of clinching a dramatic victory. Unfortunately, four were needed from the final over, which was expertly taken off the first ball by dragging a ball outside off to the vacant mid wicket boundary.
