12th May 2015 - Alexandra Palace
Won by 30 runs - NRR = 1.5

The team arrived at a balmy Alexandra Palace bristling with excitement for the season ahead. Unlike many early May games, the sun was out and the new pitch covers promised a good wicket.

CIPA were put into bat, and Justin Wilson soon discovered the pitch covers had not had their desired effect, getting bowled early on. However, CIPA's newest recruit, Matt Kilby was not fooled by the pitch and proceeded to retire on 25.

After a relatively promising start, Chris Milton continued his run of ducks, followed swiftly by Al Davidson and Rich Taylor, with only James Duffy and Stuart Lumsden putting up any real resistance. Robert Carpmael then followed suit and set up the day's second hat-trick ball for Matt Kilby to return. CIPA ended up on a low, but certainly defensible 104.

The bowling was opened by stand-in captain Al Davidson, who after his disappointment of a duck was hoping for a flurry of wickets. It was not Al's day, a twisted knee on his 5th ball meant an early pint and a chance to watch the other bowlers clean up.

The opening was continued by Andy Spurr and Matt Kilby, each taking a couple of wickets in the opening spell. The tight lines bowled ramped up the pressure, and CIPA were rewarded with two run-outs (although it should have been a few more). There was a certain sense of inevitability towards the end as the run rate crept up towards 10, and Thompson Reuters were put out of their misery by the returning Andy Spurr.
