The 100th fixture since ORB* was marked with precisely zero fanfare, apart from captain Andy Spurr losing the toss. Our experienced opposition captain made the easy decision of batting first on a used pitch with a question mark over the amount of light available.

The return of 'R Patz' was warmly received, with what I believe is a CIPA record of two consecutive maidens (and only 2 balls in the entire 4 overs going for runs off the bat). At the turn after 10 overs the score was only 30, so a very low score was on the cards. The Gardeners certainly upped the pace, assisted by some mechanical failures in the field from 'bionic man' Tom Carver. A below par, but respectable, target of 105 was set.

The two Johns were put out to open, with Bailey handed an opportunity to redeem himself (and actually use his very expensive bat). He managed a little of both; being defeated by attempting a 'pull' to a ball that was always heading half way up off stump in an almost identical fashion to the week before.

The rest of the innings went relatively smoothly, John Hull clawing his way back into form and retiring, and Justin Wilson seemingly unaffected by his demotion to no. 3. Jugs were ordered and whites put back in the bag when the scores were level and the keeper let one go past for a bye. However, our chivalrous batsmen turned down the opportunity and the next two overs resulted in 3 wickets (and almost a fourth) falling for no runs.

Chris 'hold my pint' Milton arrived in his shorts to allay all fears of a tie by dispatching his first delivery to the boundary.

A deserved grandstand end to a fixture where the scores are usually a lot closer.
